Mary Margaret Matheny,
90, of Bruceton Mills, WV, passed away at home on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The daughter of the late Harold Douglas Thorne and Mary Virginia Sell
Thorne, she was born March 28, 1934, in Davis, WV, Tucker Co.
Margaret was a member of the Bruceton United Methodist Church and the Olive Branch Church and a member of the homemakers. She especially enjoyed camping with her family, family dinners, and just being together.
A graduate of Aurora High School, she was a member of the Horseshoe Run Good Luck 4-H Club during her younger years and continued to be active in 4-H as a leader of the Bruceton Boosters 4-H Club for 30 years.
She sold Avon products for 4 years, operated Coopers Rock State Forest Concession for 10 years, and was a janitor at Procom Telecommunications and Bruceton United Methodist Church for 15 years.
She is survived by four children, Mary Ann Matheny, of Bruceton Mills, James Michael Matheny of Glendale, Az, Lori Leigh Mezzano of Morgantown, WV, and Melisssa Jo Margroff of Confluence, PA. Also surviving are several grandchildren and their spouses, Larissa DeWitt and Bill, Danielle Matheny-Pernu and Addy, Nadine Mezzano, Ciera Matheny and Jason Jones, Jessica Wolfe and Will Price, Charles Margroff and Alicia Booth, Iris Matheny, and Paige Spiva and Dave; great-grandchildren: Emma DeWitt, Maxwell Wolfe, and Ellis Jones; and brothers and sisters: John and Carolyn Thorne of Letart, WV, Paul Thorne of Pleasant Garden, NC, and Roseanne and Larry Sims of Fort Ashby, WV.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Ray Matheny; her father- and mother-law, Silas Ray Matheny and Delia Mae Michael Matheny; sister and brother-in-law, Doloris and Nolan Swecker; brother and sister-in-law, James Douglas and Dawn Thorne; grandson, Justin Smith; niece, Sonia Ritter; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Anna Mae Thorne; a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Thorne.
The family will be having a memorial service to honor their mother, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Marvin Frankhouser officiating at the Olive Branch Church (formerly the Bruceton United Methodist Church), 285 Compressor Station Road, Bruceton Mills, WV 26525.
A fellowship meal will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Preston County 4-H Foundation and/or the Olive Branch Church.
