Lyle Eugene Maxwell, age 94, of the Bruceton Mills Community, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Born on April 26, 1930, in Brandonville, WV, Lyle was the son of the late Donald E. Maxwell and Mary Wisner. Lyle was a devoted husband, father, and patriot who served his country in the U.S. Navy. He spent 30 years working as a general foreman for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, MD, a career that he found fulfilling and rewarding. Upon retiring, he enjoyed quiet, peaceful days spent with his beloved wife, Betty, watching his favorite western, Gunsmoke, staying informed on politics with Fox News, and watching wildlife while spending time on the porch. Lyle was known for his witty humor and strong loyalty and brought many laughs and love to his family. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty Crane Maxwell; a daughter, Fon (Tim) Canatella, of Rising Sun, MD; a son, Lanny (Brenda) Maxwell, of Bruceton Mills, WV; five granddaughters: Rachel (Sol) Sollerer, Jessica Canatella, Sarah (Paul) Reid, Kelly Canatella, and Brooke Maxwell; and a grandson, Grant Maxwell. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren who brought him much joy. In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Henry and brother-in-law, Tom Henry. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a social gathering at 10:00 A.M. until the service at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Shawn Frasher officiating. Military graveside honors provided by the U.S. Navy and Preston County VFW Honor Guard and the WVANG Funeral Honors members will follow at the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Albright, WV.
