Obituary of Opal Marie Friend-Miller
Please share a memory of Opal to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Opal Marie Friend-Miller,
72, of Bruceton Mills (Hazelton Community) was called to be with her Lord and Savior, at her home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Born on the DeBerry Farm in Hazelton June 27, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Sanford Ray DeBerry and Rachel Marie (Reckart) DeBerry.
Opal loved the Lord, read his Word daily, and worshiped as a member of The Mountain Dale Church in Hazelton. She spent many years with the Shoe Box Ministry for Operation Christmas Child Organization.
Opal worked at Kenny Shoe Factory and was also a server at the Mill Place Restaurant in Bruceton for many years, where she gained lifelong friends. She also worked at Mary’s Restaurant and Walmart in Oakland.
Opal loved to grow her flowers and feed the birds and bunnies that visited her backyard daily. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and quilting, as well as craft shopping with her dear friend, Wilma. She cherished quality time with her husband, Lynn, going hunting, fishing, making their vegetable garden, and just sitting together on their back porch for hours.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Lynn” Miller; two children and their spouses, Rob and Terry Lewis and Kim and Gregg Everly, all of Bruceton Mills; and her stepdaughter, Sonya (Miller) and Michael Logan, from Belmont, OH. Opal leaves behind several adored grandchildren: Jared Everly, Ashlee Williams and spouse, Thomas, Owen and Ben, Derek and Aria Everly, Alexis and Alayna Logan, and Gary and Jimmie Friend; two brothers, Stanley DeBerry of Bruceton Mills and Chester and Barbara DeBerry of Fairmont, WV; as well as all of her late husband’s family who always remained a huge part of her heart and life.
In addition to her parents, Opal was proceeded in death by her husband, Joe Friend; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Carlos Dennis; a sister, Barbara Jean Feather; two brothers-in-law, Cecil Ray Feather, Sr. and Daily Ware Rexroad; and a sister-in-law, Peachie DeBerry.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022,from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm service at the Little Sandy Community Building with Pastor Wendy Brown officiating. All family, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to attend to share in memories of Opal’s honored life.
Opal’s wishes were to bring all who loved her together. She loved nothing more than “breaking bread” with those she cared about. So, in lieu of funeral flowers, please bring or send a covered dish to the Little Sandy Community Building for all to share in a meal together, as Opal would have loved.
Her family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Amedisys Hospice/Home Health Care for exceptional, compassionate care.
