Brian Lee Butler – a beloved son, perpetual jokester and accomplished musician – passed away Thursday, May 2 at his Bruceton Mills home. He was 45 years old. Brian was born Dec. 13, 1978 to parents Lowell “Butch” Lee Butler and Charlotte Diane (Stockett) Butler in Morgantown. He was a 1997 graduate of University High School. A fan of everything from Sonic Youth to Claude Debussy, he studied music at West Virginia University’s School of Creative Arts, where he honed his craft as a phenomenal classical guitarist. He also composed music and played numerous other instruments. In addition to being a performer, Brian also worked for Morgantown Printing and Binding, and as a mail carrier for West Virginia University and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. A diehard Steelers fan and Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Brian was quick-witted, finding humor in any situation and never passing up an opportunity to make people laugh. He cherished his two Harley-Davidsons - an Indian and a Victory. He also liked working on his father’s 1960 Chevrolet Corvette. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents William “Bill” Gerald Stockett and Anna Blanche (Benson) Stockett of Bruceton Mills, and Virgil “Whitey” Donner Butler and Beulah Marie (Bittinger) Butler of Crucible, Pennsylvania, as well as aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him terribly. Friends and family will be received at the Carl R.
